The Microsoft owned developer FASA Studio, who most recently produced the multiplayer 360/PC FPS 'Shadowrun', has closed presumably due to the sales of the game being inadequate considering the lengthy development time.

Shadowrun received generally favourable reviews, but scores were low due mainly to reviewers feeling that the standard full price was excessive price point for an online-only multiplayer game with only three game-types and 9 maps.

In a post on the official Shadowrun forums, FASA head Mitch Gitelman explained that the team had known of this since well before the three patches were produced, suggesting that their fate was sealed as soon as initial sales results became available to them.

FASA Studios has been wholly owned by Microsoft since 1999, developing highly rated games including MechWarrior and Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge.

The fledgling video game industry has a terrifying turnover rate of devcos of all sizes. Luckily for FASA whose ofices are located mere miles from Microsoft's Redmond headquarters, half of them have already found new positions within Microsoft Game Studios or elsewhere within Microsoft.

This rules out the possibility of any new maps, which were supposedly being readied, but at least fans have one thing to be thankful for; Xbox Live not using dedicated servers has its advantages in these unfortunate situations.

That's a damn shame. I hope they can find some way to get those new maps out.

Whaaat? I must admit that full price seems a bit steep, but Shadowrun is a brilliant online game, and really is different from your everyday shooters...

If the new maps don't get released it just makes the full price even worse <.<

Crying shame, not the best game but was a very unique and playable summer multiplayer game. Mitch was also a great face to the company, genuinely believed and cared about their game.

Hope some sort of splinter studio emerges from the ashes.

My blog, gaming and private life ramblings ensue!

Definitely the best online shooter on 360 so far by a very long way.

If it had had a more neutral art style and setting, and cost £35 rrp and hadn't coem out i nthe middle of the Halo 3 beta, it would have sold very well and scored much better.

I gave it an 8 on consolemonster, it would have been a 9 at the right price point.

Yeah, the content made the price a bit steep, but the amount of playtime I got was a lot, and I still play it on a fairly regular basis with a big group of guys my brother knows. It's tons more fun with people you know because it gets quite tactical, without being one of those games where 1 shots kills you. Kind of like Gears of War with special abilities I suppose.

It should have been the multiplayer mode for Bioshock.
