After being spotted in the wild on a location test in February, the arcade version of last year's SEGA Rally was revealed at an event in London yesterday, dubbed SEGA Rally 3.

Technically this is essentially the PC version of SEGA Rally (Revo), running at 60 frames per second rather than 30, on a new high-spec PC-based arcade board called Europa-R.

The structure of the game differs from the console version by offering a return to a more traditional format of 2 laps on 3 tracks (Tropical, Canyon and Alpine) within a time limit, with a bonus track (Lakeside) rewarding a high level of success. This is in addition to a quick race mode against up to 6 AI cars or opponents, depending on how many cabinets are present.

Most interestingly for fans of the series however, is the third mode, which introduces remakes of the four original tracks from Sega Rally Championship 1995, with remixes of the original music and the original cars available.

ArcadeHeroes.com went to the unveiling and have posted impressions and some rubbish videos showing two linked twin cabinets.

I like the sound of that... I've been meaning to get the 360 version ever since I downloaded the demo. Will probably get it once my backlog of games has decreased a bit

Any idea when it's supposed to be in Arcades? I've been meaning to go back to the Trocadero in London for a while. Last time I went the old stairs to go up to SEGA World were just blocked by a Coke machine. I briefly thought about sneaking around it and going up there to have a look, but I decided against it

It's 'available' now in Europe, for what it's worth.
