Absolutely fucking terrible... The movement is just shit, why does it not move as soon as you press a direction? The enemy placement is stupid and often ends up catching you as you jump over a gap, without any way for you to know before you do so, and obviously killing you. There's no way to avoid it. It's not 'hard' it's just stupid.

Not to mention the fact that it looks shit. The 360 version isn't even HD, it's just upscaled and it looks horrible. That and Megaman has none of the old powers he's had for like... 15 years.

In any case the DLC is a complete piss take and even if for some reason you do find the trial fun (You insane person) I say everyone boycotts it until they release all the DLC for free ,since it all should have been in the game in the first place... In the mean time I'm gonna play the REAL Megaman 9 (Megaman & Bass) instead

"Bass" lol
"Forte" sounds so much cooler!

I must get this sometime because I really want to play a megaman game from the actual series (I have loads of megaman spin off games :P)

To be honest Megaman 8 and (The real) Megaman 9 are the only good ones. All the NES ones are terrible and most of the SNES ones are not quite as bad, but still pretty bad.

And I thought it was called Rockman and Forte in Japanese (Though I never understood why). What's Dark Falz? ;;

Edit: Ooooh, I get why he's called Forte now... Forte and Gospel... Very clever. I think I prefer Bass and Treble though. When I first played it I though it just meant the french word for strong

On your second paragraph....

You completely missed the point. The point of Megaman 9 is to return to the roots of the series - get back to the original, far more successful games, especially in general appeal.

Hence the NES style also. Remove all the excess and get back to the core of the game, the things that actually made it a well loved and successful game series in the first place.

Meaning arcade like difficulty and stripping out all the bloat.

Under the veil of darkness, where time does not pass, and light does not travel, the land of the tormentors, the demons that take your soul, before getting a discount on it at argos for a dvd player they wanted, that is the land of Pontypool, South Wales, where the grass dies before it can grow (bad sanitation) and the sun sets, but it never rose (very cloudy) and the land is left in darkness, until the human soul is redeemed..................sounds lovely doesn't it?

But old games are shit to play now. I played the demo too and was just bewildered that anyone could actually be having fun with it. Things like the insane difficulty don't exist in modern game design because it's a shit piece of design, that only existed to make kids fork over all their quarters. The jumping feels horrid, and quite frankly the joystick vs d-pad debate is LAUGHABLE when it takes Megaman such a ridiculous amount of time to start moving.

Yeah that's it Forte...I have no idea where I got Dark Falz from...

Forte>Bass
Rockman and Megaman sound equally lame though.

I never understood why a design that actually made people want to play the game more is considered bad.

"Oh noes, people actually want to put more quarters in to play!".

The difference in design is that it's skill based, not time based. Most game nowadays are measured on how long the game is, rather than how good the player is (exception being racing games, though even that's gone down a fair bit). It's this requirement of constant improvement that makes it difficult, not inherently shit design. It's also what makes it more addictive in the age old "just one more go" sense. The fact that you know if you timed it a little better, if you reacted quicker, you might've made it.

Megaman 9 is just platforming F-Zero

E: Better comparison would be Ikrauga/shmups in general

Yes, because timing can prevent you being killed by an enemy that jumps out of a pit when you jump over it.

OH WAIT-

I don't mind games being difficult, but they have to at least be possible the first time. The game seems like it's just trying to piss me of on purpose. Enemies that come out of nowhere with no way of you knowing they exist unless you've already been killed by them have nothing to do with skill. Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe are hard, and I love it, but they aren't designed by complete bastards.

I don't see how going back to the old, practically impossible, style and shitty graphics gives it a more 'general appeal'. Your average casual gamer isn't going to be able to get past the first level, and that's if they even both trying after the first time an enemy they didn't know about jumps up and rapes them. And THAT'S if they don't ignore the came completely because of the way it looks. A shitty 8-bit style is not going to get people who judge a game by how it looks in the first five seconds to like it. And yes, most casual gamers do do that. The only reason the Wii has done well is because of the controller.

As for them being more popular, that's just because people stopped playing games. Arcade games died out because no-one really wanted to play them anymore, and if we believe people like Reggie the number of 'gamers' started decreasing after the 80s. It doesn't mean the old ones are better.

In any case, just because something is more popular, doesn't mean it's good. The Call of Duty games sell millions and they're terrible, I can't see why anyone likes them. Same with awful movie tie-ins and other horrible generic FPS games.

Basically what it comes down to is that Megaman 9 isn't a game for Megaman fans. It's a game for people who played Megaman on the NES and haven't played it since because they got bored of it. People who maybe USED to be Megaman fans, but aren't anymore. It's designed to play on your nostalgia and make you think it's better than it actually is. Thankfully I only started liking Megaman after it actually got good, so I seem to be immune...
