It's a bit 'mazin'. No seriously.

That's the end room of a dungeon. It's very nice and bright durign the day in a nicer place.

I have a red cape now and look like a cross between superman and papa smurf.

Out ambushing rival guilds in a high-level area, apprenticed up by a crazy high-level welsh bloke who manages to play all day every day whilst being married and with a baby...

Later we got on a roof and shot people off their horses, imposing pedestrian regulations on a busy street. You could only get on the roof by dropping down from a cliff, loosing half your health, so if anyone came up for revenge, we could rinse them.

Hilarious guild alliance meeting, in which two guilds stormed out and one of our guys hired strippers from a prostitute guild who arrived complete with pimps and danced naked around the leaders during 'serious role-play discussion'.

God I love this game.

^I've never played it, but I now love it too.

Monthly fees though, yes?

And fate is setting up the chessboard while death rolls out the dice. Anyone for tennis, wouldn't that be nice?

It's a bit of a rip-off at £10.41 a month because they add VAT to the usual 8.99 which usually includes it. Not so bad if you pay in a bigger lump though, which I'll probably do.

1st month is free obv.

I tend to steer clear of mmo's. More because I got hooked on maple story (shame :|) Takes me way way to long before I realize that I'm wasting my time.

I just find them completely and utterly boring... I got to level 36 in Maple Story before I realised I fucking hated playing it, and it was such an enormous waste of time. I hate normal RPGs because of the grinding, and in MMOs that's practically all you do >.>

Jesus, Maple Story isn't really in any way comparable...

AoC is awesome where the other shite fails because the combat it so much more tactile and immediate. Even when you play a healer or caster like me, almost everything is Area of Effect/splash damage which makes it all a million times more dynamic and less fiddly than all the other Everquest clones.

The emphasis on PvP and the way it works, which larger guilds encouraged, means that you get a lot of spontaneous 'players as content' stuff, which has always been what I've found missing in the EQ clones. Provided you're on the right server that is, you'd be a complete chump to choose a PVE one.

I'm lvl 54 of 80 and haven't had to do any real grinding. There are very very few of those shite kill quota quests, and the quotas are always small.

The only serious MMORPG problem that AoC hasn't solved is getting-left-behind syndrome, where when the people you play with level faster than you, you can often often unable to play together and end up having to solo, which becomes a demoralising and often impossible grind to catch up.

I'm kinda intrigued, but I've just back into Maple Story lately (hence the lack of major work on W8). One of the main things I personally hated about other MMORPGs were the graphics....I mean if you're going to be grinding at least make the game pleasing to look at. WoW is just god damn ugly, whereas Age of Conan seems to look really nice. And I love how Maple Story looks.

You won't like the foliage (speedtree at its worst tbh) but yeah it's absolutely gorgeous in places and very nice on the whole. Couple of shite dungeons here and there, but those are all places you don't need to go in anyway, and the good ones are very good and often have relatively elaborate scripted events.

I must admit I like the sound of Conan more than any other MMO, and I was thinking of trying it. I'd probably end up having to play it on my own though, and we've already established that that's shit...

I really liked the graphics on maple story, although after a while I'd really had enough of it. Was level...32 I think. I'd agree that conan looks really really great, although I am still a bit skeptical of the whole mmopuguh system, cant see myself paying each month either.

yatzee reviewed it. Confirmed his package. looks better than before!

I've got a buddy invite if anyone wants it. You get to play for a week. The catch is that since I can't really lend you my DVDs it's more than 15GBs of download, and Funcom charge you 2.99EUR/$ for the pleasure of doing so from them (though they do give you 3 extra days if you do this). So you might prefer to have a look at torrents etc to see if there's a usable version out there. Don't worry about cracks etc, it runs without the discs and I'll be giving you the equivalent of a CD key.

You need a posh pooter as well remember, I believe there are at least a couple of you on here with this kind of thing.
Recommended:

* OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1
* Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz or equivalent
* RAM: 2GB DDR2
* Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX or equivalent
* Video memory: 512MB
* DVD-ROM: Quad-speed (4x) DVD-ROM drive
* Hard drive space: 32GB (it unpacks a shitload of stuff and downloads massive patches)

I'll start a new character and play with you from the start if you do.
