Tomorrow is a bank holiday, and so most shops are already selling this week's stuff. I doubt there'll be post tomorrow, which isn't good news for me copy of
SEGA Superstars Tennis. I've always tried to get into the Virtua Tennis games, they always seemed like a good balance of depth and simplicity. But they seem to be bizarrely hard despite this. This game shaves a little bit more off whilst remaining essentially Virtua Tennis. It also ditches the unimaginably boring tennis simulation aesthetics which were always the other big turn off, meaning that it could be the perfect fit. Shame NiGHTS talks in it...with that voice.
The Wii version is supposed to be good too, if a little different. In Virtua Tennis you press the button and the game then plays the appropriate shot based on various things (position, timing etc). When swinging the controller you expect an instant reaction, so Sumo had to change the system quite dramatically.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is also out, and will again be massively popular no doubt. What's even more certain though is that it will be massively broken. There's already a patch out for it on 360, which isn't a good sign. So as part of my ongoing Ubisoft online game boycott, I'll be avoiding this despite the temptation.
If you've never played a
Roguelike, you might find
Shiren the Wanderer interesting. It's a port of the SNES game in the long-runnign series. I think it's the first to reach PAL. Anyway it;s essentially a random dungeon based RPG in which death results in you having to start again (or going through a juxtopposed 'rescue' system via WiFi or password). After playing it, I know that I don't like Roguelikes. They're games for massocists. You need to try it though.SEGA Superstars Tennis (360, PS3, PS2, Wii, DS)
